Message received from French student participant in March 2009 Seminar. -- M. Rogoff

Dear Professor,

My name is Julie-Ann Camboni, 3L, and I was a student participating in last year's French Law Program at the Université du Maine in Le Mans. I read your French Law Program Newsletter on the University of Maine website, and it made me want to write to you.

I have the best memory of the seminar, discovering a lot about equality and égalité, and more generally about our two legal systems.

I toured the legal institutions in Paris with the group, which were amazing memories for me. I was even able to update my knowledge about an administrative justice reform, concerning the "Conseil d'Etat" : it was thanks to you actually, when you asked me during an "audience" who was the man speaking, it was the "commissaire du gouvernement" just newly called "rapporteur public".

I attended the seminar at the University, and really liked the presentations, the energy that came from every group. Both the American and the French students really got along very well! We could even talk to you professors, about your careers, your projects, and I remember taling to Professor Norchi about coming to study in the University of Maine next year at the dinner.

I met Amber Collins, whom I welcomed at home during the seminar. We spent a lot of time talking, about France and the United States as well as about the differences between our countries, concerning our legal systems.
I had the opportunity to observe a lot of things we talked about when I shadowed for two week in a court in the United States last May, in Bloomington, Indiana.

Amber and I became close friends, and we have kept in touch since the seminar. This is something that I really value. We can both ask each other anytime about any reform going on in our country, or about the courses we have, our legal jobs or internships, or even helping each other about writing a résumé and a cover letter in the other language.

I am very thankfull for participating in this exchange! I really enjoyed it, it taught me so much. And I think the Newsletter is great, the pictures are attractive and give a good overview of the French Law Program. Cela donne envie de participer à nouveau!

Best regards,

Julie-Ann Camboni
